40th Anniversary

Celebrating 40 Years of the Volvo 1800 120 Club Australia

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Volvo 1800 120 Club Australia. It has been four decades since a small group of enthusiasts first gathered to form the "Volvo 1800 Car Owners Association"—the foundation of the club we know and love today.

Throughout 2026, we will be celebrating all things Volvo 1800 and 120. The pinnacle of our celebrations will be the National Volvo Rally in Tamworth, where enthusiasts from across the country will gather over the Easter long weekend.

Our club remains unique, by focusing specifically on these two iconic models, we have fostered a dedicated community that helps keep these classic Volvos on the road. With many members having been with us for decades, this Ruby Anniversary is a testament to our shared passion. Keep a lookout for the many exciting events planned for this milestone year!

The Volvo 1800-120 Club Australia Inc.

The Volvo 1800-120 Club Australia Inc. is a national organisation for owners and enthusiasts of the classic Volvo P1800 and P120 vehicles. Based in Brisbane, Queensland, the club was formed through the amalgamation of two well-established and passionate groups, creating a vibrant community for Volvo enthusiasts across Australia.

Our History

The origins of our club date back to 1986, when a group of Volvo 1800 enthusiasts, who were initially unknown to each other, and were enjoying their cars independently. By chance, some of these owners met at a car 'show and shine' event in Brisbane. Among them was Allen Edwards, who was in the process of restoring his P1800. Allen often carried a photo album documenting his restoration journey, which sparked conversations and inspired the idea of forming a club. This led to the creation of the Volvo 1800 Car Owners Association.

Around the same time, the Volvo 120 Club was established by Wayne Luckman and Vicki Minassian to cater to the growing community of Volvo 120 owners. Many members of this club also owned Volvo 1800s, and the club quickly gained popularity. Over time, it became clear that there was significant overlap between the two groups, with some members even serving on both committees. This shared passion for classic Volvos led to the natural decision to merge the two clubs, forming the Volvo 1800-120 Club Australia, a national organisation dedicated to preserving and celebrating these iconic vehicles.
